Please join the Greyhound Club of America on Saturday afternoon, March 21st, 2015 for Sighthound JC/QC tests followed by a Greyhound specialty lure coursing trial in conjunction with the GCA Southern Specialty at Haggard Farm in Celina, Texas, and Deann is making sure that the field will be in great shape for us! Directions to the Haggard Farm.

The greyhounds are coming, the greyhounds are coming!  Below is the is the info about the Greyhound Club of America Specialty Lure Coursing event.  Everyone is invited to come and watch the greyhounds course, and have lunch (for a nominal fee).  All proceeds to benefit TAGS greyhounds.

For those who might have greyhounds that they want to course, go to AKC.org and put "PAL registration" in the search field at the opening web site and follow the instructions to register a greyhound as a PAL.  This is necessary because this is an official AKC trial and all dogs must either be breed registered with the AKC or have a PAL (Purebred Alternative Listing) number that will allow them to compete in AKC events.  It is not a difficult procedure and doesn't cost much, and it opens your hound up to participate in ANY AKC event except conformation (the "pretty" dog shows.)  That means agility, barn hunts, lure coursing, etc.  Lots of things to try to get your hounds out of the house and interested in something new. Once you have a PAL registration number, you can enter the lure coursing trial the day of the trial with that number.

But if your hound is a couch potato who seldom gets any exercise of any kind, I do not recommend trying to compete in a real lure coursing trial like this as your first attempt.  The hounds have to run the course 2 or 3 times, depending on how they score, and the course will be 800 plus yards long. That's a lot of exercise, tight turns and quick stops for a couch potato.  Much better to come out to one of the Fun Days that are held here at the farm and get your dog introduced to the sport on the short, straight course (no turns)and start on a fitness regimen to get them in shape.

Come on out and have some lunch, contribute to TAGS and their greyhound adoption efforts and see if this is something you might be interested in doing with your hounds in the future.

Join the Greyhound Club of America for greyhound-only specialty AKC lure coursing on Saturday 3/21/2015.  We'll start off with a lunch at 11:30 - a fund raiser for local greyhound adoption - then move on to JC/QC tests at 1:00 and then the trial.
